Boss has three late model PC228 USLC Komatsu excavators equipped with our specially designed tree extraction tools. We selected the 20 metric ton PC228's because of their " zero tail swing" feature, which allows the machines to work in very dense stands or trees or brush without damaging the equipment or native vegetation. With their powerful and sophisticated system of hydraulics, the Komatsu 228s also work at grades of up to 50% and in standing water up to 3 feet deep. They have a 28-foot boom reach and an effective tree extraction radius of 25 feet, allowing the operator to clear brush in a path that is almost 50 feet wide with one pass over the land. Though the machine weighs 50,000 pounds, surface disturbance and damage to native grasses and vegetation is low and ground pressure is approximately 6 pounds per square inch. Boss excavators are operated by Luke Thompson, Alex Akin, or Michael Quirk each of whom have thousands of hours experience using the tree extractors in dense stands of salt cedar, Russian olive, mesquite, pinon/juniper, and western cedar tree stands. HEAVY DUTY GRINDERS Boss has (2) LARGE heavy-duty grinders available for service. The largest of the machines is a 2004 LH575 Hendrix Mulching Machine that is used to grind large material on very steep slopes. The LH575 delivers over 525 hp to its 9’6” FAE mulching head and can safely navigate slopes in excess of 50%. The machine is built on a D6 Caterpillar frame (with Cat engine) and weighs 58,000 pounds with a ground pressure of less than 8 PSI. The LH575 is the largest mobile mulching machine available in the US and is designed for high production, severe duty service in extreme conditions. Boss also has a 2003 Magnum 500 Mulcher Mower. This machine is built on a Cat 938G loader chassis with a Cat 3406E, 500 HP diesel engine that delivers over 450 hp to its mulching head. It features forestry rated rubber tires and weighs appx. 47,300 lbs. The Magnum cutter head is appx. 11' wide, with an 8' cutting width, and a 13' cut height. All Boss mulching machines use fixed tooth cutting heads that deliver high cutting rates on heavy, woody material and are used to grind extracted, standing, or dead and down trees up to 80" in diameter. All Boss equipment feature climate controlled enclosed cabs, are easily serviced, and allow for maximum production in all kinds of vegetation and environmental conditions. Support Vehicles and Equipment. To transport equipment to and from job sites, or move equipment within a job site, Boss utilizes it own trucks and trailers. Specifically, the excavators and large grinders are moved using a 1997 Kenworth tractor pulling a 2003 50-ton Fontaine 3-axle low-boy trailer. Miscellaneous Equipment. An assortment of chain saws (with approved spark arrestors), backpack herbicide sprayers, air compressors, pumps, hand tools, fire fighting and suppression tools, repair parts, and safety signage are also maintained on each job site as required. To support the operation of the equipment, Boss utilizes two custom-built fuel trailers that are designed for heavy-duty service on poorly maintained rural roads. Three late-model well-equipped heavy-duty 4wd pickup service trucks round out the fleet. This mix of support equipment allows Boss to mobilize or relocate quickly and service our equipment on site, whether that site is remote or in easy distance from service centers. "Extreme conditions require extreme equipment! That is why we use the largest, highest horsepower grinding equipment available."
